GEORGE Y. KERR
President and CEO

Born and reared in the Charleston area, George was a graduate of Clendenin High School where he was a band member under the tutelage of John R. Barnes. In both high school and college, he played drums and other percussion instruments. Receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from Glenville State College in Glenville, WV, he directed bands and conducted choirs in the state of West Virginia for eight years and worked as a music salesman for ten years.

In 1980, George felt led to having a music store dedicated to helping educators, music students and parents in the state. As a result, Kerr’s Music World was incorporated on July 28, 1980. George serves as President and CEO of the company located at 911 Bigley Avenue, Charleston.

George is a sales person and educational consultant to elementary music programs; middle, junior and senior high school music programs; and colleges and universities. Since 1980, he has spent his work time devoted to the needs of music education, as he believes this is the best educational mind training experience students can experience.

George is the husband of Elaine Kerr, who is the uniform sales person for Kerr’s Music World, Inc. Their children, George S. and Sarah, have both been trained in the musical field. Son George S. is a NAPBIRT repair technician in charge of Kerr’s Music Repair Shop located on the premises. Daughter Sarah is a graduate student at Florida State University where she is studying Music Therapy.

In his spare time, George’s hobbies include collecting old antique instruments and accumulating collectibles from the New York Yankees. A true fan of the Yankees, George has designated a part of his recreation room at home to his Yankees collection.
